Fetal Growth & Well-being Scans
Critical third-trimester evaluations tracking fetal weight, amniotic fluid, umbilical blood flow, and overall fetal vitality.
As your pregnancy advances into the third trimester, monitoring fetal growth trajectories becomes paramount. At Prera Sonography Centre, Fetal Growth & Well-being Scans evaluate whether your baby is growing proportionally according to gestational norms and receiving adequate oxygen and nutrients from the placenta.
During these scans, we measure biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC), and femur length (FL) to calculate the Estimated Fetal Weight (EFW). Coupled with color Doppler studies and Biophysical Profile (BPP) testing, we gain a comprehensive assessment of fetal reserve.
Growth & Well-being Parameters
- Estimated Fetal Weight (EFW) calculation using Hadlock formula
- Amniotic Fluid Index (AFI) and single deepest pocket assessment
- Fetal Biophysical Profile (BPP) scoring for movement & tone
- Color Doppler evaluation of Umbilical Artery & Middle Cerebral Artery
- Placental maturity grading and distance from internal os
- Fetal presentation (cephalic, breech, transverse) confirmation
- Screening for Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR/FGR)
- Comparison with previous ultrasound growth curves
What to Expect
Biometric Measurements
Precise calibration of baby’s head, abdomen, and limb lengths plotted against standardized gestational percentiles.
Doppler Hemodynamic Assessment
Sound wave frequency analysis measuring blood flow resistance across the umbilical cord and fetal brain.
Reassuring Assessment Report
Clear documentation enabling your obstetrician to schedule ideal delivery timing or therapeutic interventions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions answered regarding Fetal Growth & Well-being Scans at Prera Women’s Hospital.
Growth scans are typically conducted between 28–32 weeks and again between 36–38 weeks, or more frequently if high risk.
This may indicate fetal growth restriction (FGR). We intensify surveillance with Doppler studies to monitor well-being closely.
BPP tests fetal breathing, body movement, muscle tone, and amniotic fluid volume, scoring baby out of 8 or 10 points for vitality.
Ultrasound weight estimation has a recognized margin of error of approximately +/- 10%, giving doctors a reliable clinical baseline.
